The earliest of the native woodland spring wildflowers are known as ephemerals. They emerge before the leaves on the deciduous trees begin to open. We've finally had a couple nice days in a row of spring weather, so I decided to have a look in our backyard.
Below are some of the little wonders that I discovered...

I hope you enjoyed viewing the photos as much as I enjoyed getting out there and taking them!! (Of course I really have a ton of other stuff that I should be doing, but...)
I suppose the title of my blog is a little inaccurate at this point... My blog is evolving in an unpredicted way, and I'm just going with the flow of what inspires me. If you have any suggestions for a more appropriate name, I'm open to hearing them. But then again if I go and change it, then I might go on a quilting spree-- who knows!

Spring is definitely upon you. Nice photos. You must have a good camera. Love the fern. I don't know if we have Ephemerals in the Netherlands. Must look it up :) There was a lot of dusting of pollen on my car so I went to the carwash Friday. Sadly, the car only looked clean for an hour or two. It is pretty dry here so lots of pollen in the air!

Thank you for your reaction on my blog. I was already wondering how you picked up on me. But now I see the reaction of Helen and that kind a solfs the mistery!! She lives nearby in Nijkerk. Helen and I will finaly meet in may! Should be fun to have a quilter nearby. Well our trip to the states was one big succes. I'll show what I have bought shortly. Will be following you in the future.
The native plantlife has been a focus of mine lately. I just ordered two books from Amazon.com to help me choose native plants for my garden and to identify the plants and trees growing in my own backyard. How inspiring you are!
